What is the difference between u-mee fibre and the alternatives offered by other providers in Gibraltar?

u-mee is the only provider in Gibraltar using exclusively FTTH (fibre-to-the-home) technology, which means that the fibre network extends all the way into your home for a high quality, reliable connection.

u-mee does not use any copper cabling, whilst in the case of FTTN (fibre-to-the-node) or FTTB (fibre-to-the building), which are the technologies currently used by other providers in Gibraltar, the final part of the cable that reaches your home (commonly called the “last mile”) is delivered over copper.

Copper cabling limits an Internet provider's capacity to deliver the bandwidth you signed up for, impacts connection reliability and general performance, which degrades depending on the distance from the node. It also limits the Internet provider's ability to improve your Internet speed, whilst u-mee fibre technology allows for speeds up to 1Gbps (or 1000Mbps).

u-mee is “powered by Sapphire” and therefore benefiting from the support and experience of a trusted Internet service provider, with years of experience in delivering high-bandwidth and high-availability services to Gibraltar's biggest e-gaming and financial businesses, whilst ensuring the independent network capacity to meet customer demands, even during peak periods.
